Tim Diaz
Singer-songwriter Tim Diaz delves into "the ordinary events that people overlook in their lives" and finds poetry in what others might brush off as commonplace.
"I kind of started anew," Diaz recalls. "I was divorced, stepped into the love of my life and a baby...it was just a certain time and a certain feeling of starting out, I suppose, that I captured in these songs."
If you've paid even a modicum of attention to Detroit music in the past 5 years you've probably run across Diaz, who was inspired to play music by both his grandfather and his great-grandfather. Diaz did roam after graduating from high school, playing piano in a traveling gospel band and subsequently living in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. Upon returning to Detroit in the `90s he began playing in some of the city's most highly regarded bands. By 2002, Tim had been recognized as a solo artist by the Detroit Music Awards with the honors of Best Rock Instumentalist- Rock/Pop (1999), Outstanding Rock Insturmentalist - Rock/Pop (2000) and Outstanding Folk Vocalist- Acoustic/Folk (2002).
